Learn Spanish on Margarita Island, Venezuela
Margarita Island, the most southerly island in the Caribbean, is a mountainous tropical paradise located about thirty minutes by airplane from the Venezuelan mainland. The island is blessed with a wonderful climate which remains almost constant throughout the year, with an average of around 320 sunny days per year and a temperature that is rarely too hot or too cool. The island stretches for 32 Kilometers from north to south and 67 Kilometers from east to west, with beautiful white sandy beaches and swaying palm trees that typify this part of the Caribbean. Margarita Islands beautiful scenery is divided into two sections, with both being linked by a 24 Kilometers and spit that separates the stunning blue waters of the ocean from the islands fascinating Restinga Lagoon National Park.
According to local legends, the island was created by the teardrop of a cherub and hence named the " Pearl of the Caribbean ". Today Margarita is home to over 300,000 people, most of who live in the eastern part of the island where you will find the the capital city of Asuncion as well as the shoppers paradise of Porlamar. The western part of Margarita Island is known as the Macanao Peninsula. This part of the island is sparsely populated and has seen little tourist development due to the limited availability of water.
The most important town on the island is Porlamar whose name has been shortened over the years from its original form of "Puerto de la Mar". The town has seen extraordinary urban and commercial growth during the last fifteen years, with the old quiet fisherman village becoming a booming town with skyscrapers, excellent hotels, night clubs, large commercial businesses and luxurious restaurants. Although Porlamar has seen large scale growth in recent years, this is a stark contrast to the majority of the island that remains both subdued and quiet with long white sand beaches that dominate the environment.

We also provide our students with access to telephones and the Internet, with our wireless network available to students who bring their own laptop and an office computer readily accessible to all others. For students attending our Spanish courses here in Venezuela, we are also happy to provide transport to your accommodation from the General Santiago Marino Airport in Porlamar, free of charge, while the return journey is usually organized by the students host family or by the student himself.
For many years our Spanish school has developed its own teaching materials and we are continually working to improve them, with our student's feedback being one of the most important factors in any of the improvements we make. During our lessons we make use of as many authentic materials possible, with local newspapers, magazines and other materials helping to make our courses as interesting and culturally relevant as possible. Spanish Courses Venezuela - Accommodation
At our Spanish school on Margarita Island, Venezuela we can offer, and highly recommend, the option of living with a local host family for the duration of your Spanish course. We believe that living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country. All our families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that good living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school is usually not more than a short walk away.
Staying with a local family is a truly wonderful experience and many of our students make lifetime friends with their host family. However, you should also have realistic expectations and recognize that an element of flexibility is required to adjust to the local customs and way of life. Your host family may not have the same comforts as your own home but you will always be treated as a guest and feel free to come and go as you wish.
For students who do not wish to stay with a host family we can also offer a choice of alternative accommodation. At our language school we have arranged co operation with several hotels and guest houses and apartments in the area who can offer our students a reasonable discount on accommodation. Interested students should contact us in advance so we can find the right choice for your individual needs.
