La Ceiba is the third largest city in Honduras and is also regarded as one of the country’s most important ports. The city’s name was decided in honor of a giant ceiba tree that used to grow here on the shores of the Caribbean Sea in the spot where today the city’s principal avenue and First Street converge.

The port city of La Ceiba started to develop in 1872, when Mr. Manuel Hernandez built a hut under the enormous tree and then around it other neighbors started to settle, seduced by the boom of the banana plantations at the time.

Due to its natural beauty La Ceiba has been declared by the Honduran Government as "The Capital of Ecotourism". Among its natural attractions is the imposing Pico Bonito (2,435 meters high) which stands in the midst of its own national park complete with tropical rain forest, beautiful waterfalls and spectacular landscapes. The wild life refuge of "Cuero y Salado" is a national park where visitors can appreciate a diverse variety of wild animals and exotic birds. If you're lucky you may even catch a glimpse of a beautiful manatee, an endangered species that has found a safe place to live here. The city is also close to the Cangrejal River which is one of the few rivers in Central America that is famous for adventure water sports such as white water rafting and canoeing.

As well as national parks, La Ceiba is also well known for its proximity to some of Latin Americas most popular beaches, many of which border the northern part of the city. A few minutes outside of the city limits you will find Peru and El Porvenir beaches, both of which are well worth a visit.

La Ceiba is well known throughout Central America for its Feria Isidra that takes place during the last days of May. This large and important fiesta ends with a big carnival called "Gran Carnaval de la Amistad" where the city’s first avenue turns into a huge dance floor with local musical bands and colourful floats. Although the Feria Isidra is the largest celebration in the city, it is not the only time that festivities take over, in fact the happy spirit of the people prevails all year long in the first street or "Zona Viva" with its wide collection of clubs and bars which offer a night out to suit everyone.

Our Spanish school operates on the full immersion system to ensure the quickest and most rewarding results. In La Ceiba all our Spanish courses operate on a one to one student teacher ratio as we believe that this personal approach allows each individual student to advance at their own pace without being held back by varying abilities in the classroom. With this in mind, we also have consciously kept our school small, with a limit of twenty students at any one time ensuring that everyone gets the same high standard of attention and instruction.

Our Spanish language school has been in operation in La Ceiba since 1992 and since that time we have continued to develop our program to the effective level of today. All our staff are well qualified and experienced, with their main goal of our students success always their top priority. On arrival at the school all our students are given a placement test to review your knowledge of the Spanish language. This review helps us to structure an individual curriculum to suit your individual language requirements.

Our language school also provides sponsored events and activities that are designed to broaden your horizons and give you a deeper knowledge of the local people and their culture. We offer a wide variety of excursions and activities that are open to all students on an optional basis, with a small fee charged to cover expenses such as transportation and meals. Some of the regular excursions on offer at our school include white water rafting, local village tours, mountain biking, dance classes and hiking trips. Our La Ceiba Spanish School is a full language immersion school where Spanish is taught on a one to one student teacher ratio. At our school we mainly focus on conversation practice, grammar, readings and vocabulary according to the student’s individual level and personal requirements.

Our program is based on twenty hours of lessons per week, with classes for four hours every day from Monday to Friday. We operate morning and afternoon sessions from 7.30 am to 11.30 am and from 1.30 pm. to 5.30 pm. All the teachers at our school are professionally certified and must pass an entrance exam in order to work for us. They are also university graduates, while some of them are also bilingual which can be a great help for those students who are at the very beginning of their Spanish language journey.

Our Individual courses include text books, reading materials and airport pick up.

Learn Spanish in Honduras - Accommodation

At our Spanish language school in La Ceiba, Honduras we can offer, and highly recommend, the option of living with a local host family for the duration of your course. We believe that living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country. All our families are hand picked after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that good living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school is usually not more than a short walk away.

Our Home Stay option consists of a private room with three meals a day provided by the family, with students also receiving a house key to enable them to come and go at their convenience. Students participating in our home stay option will be met at the airport or bus station by the owners of the school and taken directly to their host family. Students are free to arrive and stay with their family two days before the start of their course in order to get to know the members of the family and get familiar with the town.
