Antigua is a small city located in the Guatemala highlands at 5000 feet above sea level, and dates from the Spanish colonial era. It is nestled in a valley surrounded by lush mountains and three extinct volcanoes, creating an incredible panoramic view. In 1965, Antigua was named "Monument of the Americas " by the Pan American Institute, due to its cobblestone streets, magnificent ruins and Spanish colonial architecture, making it one of the most charming cities in the whole of Latin America, and a perfect location to learn Spanish in Guatemala.

Although Antigua possesses a natural charm it is by no means isolated in its beauty, with the surrounding villages and towns also providing an abundance of interesting and colourful places to visit. Antigua claims a truly international variety of restaurants and nightlife, with streets that come alive at the weekends and during the city's many fiestas. There are also excellent opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as hiking, rock climbing, camping, swimming and cycling. Then add to this the world famous ruins of Tikal , further away but still very accessible, and you'll find yourself spoilt with things to see and do. Our Spanish Language School in Antigua, Guatemala

Our Antiguan Spanish School is a friendly establishment that aims to provide a quality educational experience which caters to each student's individual needs. Our Spanish school's staff consists of ten highly qualified teachers who provide each student with an individualized program based on an initial knowledge assessment at the outset of the course.

Unlike many other Spanish schools we pride ourselves in limiting our school size to ten teachers for ten students at any one time. With this, our Spanish school is more personable and social for your Spanish immersion experience. All our teachers are qualified university trained educators that are always available to provide any assistance necessary to help you to learn Spanish quickly and effectively. With only ten students we also find it is easier to monitor the progress of each student and control the program of each teacher.

At our Antigua Spanish School all instruction is provided on an individual basis. Through many years of experience we have found that this individual instruction format has several advantages: Firstly, it ensures that you have the full attention of your teacher. Secondly, students do not have to worry about the "stage fright" factor inherent in attempting to utter unfamiliar sounds and words in front of a classroom audience. Thirdly, and for many of our students the most important factor, with one to one instruction there is no "schedule" of classes.

Quite simply, Spanish language instruction begins when you arrive and ends when you decide to leave, while the schedule is dependent only on each student's available resources and their desire to study. Even after the student is in attendance at the school, scheduling of classes remains ultimately flexible as we allow you to pay one week's tuition at a time. Thanks to this system no student is tied to a preconceived schedule so impromptu travel changes or study plans can usually be accommodated.

Our Spanish school uses the audio lingual method of teaching. This method is referred to as "Total Immersion", which not only gives you your own teacher for the study period but also the chance to live with a host family, which greatly enhances your ability to converse. The school provides all the textbooks and other materials required for your course, while the duration of your course depends on your own personal needs and experience. We suggest between 4 to 8 weeks of tuition depending on your previous knowledge and your personal goals.

Due to the largely pleasant climate in Guatemala we can usually offer the student the choice of studying either outside in the fresh air or in the more traditional environment of the classroom.

Although Spanish is the main language spoken by our teachers, they are all able to converse in basic English when necessary. This often proves very useful for students just starting out on the Spanish language journey.

Activities

Our Spanish school in Antigua, Guatemala also offers an impressive extra curricular program, with many activities provided free of charge in the afternoons following class. Some of the activities regularly available are:

• Bicycle tour around Antigua (bicycle included)
• Tour of a Coffee Plantation, Textile Museum, Macadamia nut plantation, or churches and ruins

Voluntary Work Placements

Volunteer opportunities are available in local hospitals with children or adults in different areas of service, such as social work, nursery care, kitchens and laboratories etc. Our school also supports an educational project in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. We provide interested students with notebooks, pencils, paper. Students who are interested in volunteer opportunities should discuss the options with us on arrival in Antigua.

Our Spanish school in Antigua offers a superior Spanish program, with enhanced teaching techniques and a superb extracurricular program that we believe provides you with a thorough and personal learning experience. Our schools program is focused on the individual needs of each student with particular attention to mutual respect and honesty, grammar, conversation and reading. At our school, each program is designed specifically for the needs of the individual student.

The objective of the program is to help you, as an elementary student, reach a basic understanding of Spanish grammar, combined with a degree of fluency in the spoken language or, as an advanced student, to build on and expand your existing Spanish language skills. After an evaluation to determine your current language ability and needs, an individual study plan is developed for each student. Our schools everyday instruction normally consists of oral drills, written exercises, conversation practice, literature study and work on finer grammatical points. Over the last fourteen years, we have perfected our program and methods so that now we can boast the most efficient techniques helping you learn Spanish more effectively. We recommended elementary students enroll for a period of 4 to 6 weeks to attain the basic skills necessary for conversing in the Spanish language.

Spanish Course Guatemala - Accommodation

Our Spanish School is happy to recommend and organize accommodation with an Antiguan family for the duration of your course. At our school we believe this program gives our students a deeper insight into the culture and home life of Latin America, as well as providing a great opportunity to practice your Spanish in an authentic environment. Participants in our home stay program will receive their own private room, hot bathing water, purified drinking water, and three meals per day from Monday to Saturday. Our home stay option gives the student the home from home feel as well as providing a marvelous opportunity to practices Spanish and build friendships with native antigueños. All our families are situated in a safe area close to the Central Park of Antigua and within walking distance of the school. On Sunday you are responsible for your own meals, this gives you a chance to try some of the many other types of food available from the multitude of restaurants and cafes that populate the town.

Price includes one Weeks accommodation with a Guatemalan family, including 7 nights with 3 meals per day for six days (families do not provide meals on Sundays).
