Learn Spanish in Santo Domingo, Costa Rica

Santo Domingo is a beautiful city located roughly halfway between Heredia City and San José in the heart of Central America. The city's 50,000 inhabitants are known for their friendliness and hospitality, so you will quickly feel at home here. Many families with children live in the town's pleasant surroundings, which include a park, charming churches, and quiet neighborhoods. In the evenings there is always plenty to do, as there is always something happening in the town's bars, restaurants, and pubs. Using the excellent public transportation system, you can reach Heredia City and San José in only eight minutes.

Student life dominates the university city of Heredia which has a population of 100,000 inhabitants. There are many bars, restaurants, pubs, and dance clubs as well as great shops around the university quarter. Nevertheless, the city remains manageable and is in no way hectic. This makes Santo Domingo an ideal location to learn Spanish in Costa Rica.

When in Santo Domingo everyone should visit the INBio Parque or the Institute of Biodiversity. This park is a great educational experience for anyone who wishes to gain a deeper insight into Costa Rica 's amazing biological diversity. Part park and part educational center, the INBio Park is a wonderful place for families, as children can get to see many of Costa Rica 's indigenous plants and animals. Home to around 600 species of plants, over 50 species of birds and an enchanting butterfly farm, the park is also the habitat of iguanas, snakes, turtles, sloth's and dart frogs. There is a research station in the park as well as a museum, and a number of good walking and hiking trails that wind their way through the beautiful natural environment.

Our Spanish School in Santo Domingo, Costa Rica

Our Spanish language school is located close to the centre of Santo Domingo, a mere two minute walk from the bus stop from which you can take a bus to San José and Heredia City. Our modern and nicely furnished building has 15 bright and spacious classrooms spread over three floors, which provide a comfortable learning environment. Students are free to enjoy the gardens surrounding the school facilities during breaks in class.

Our Spanish school's educational materials are up to date and mostly come from Spanish universities or the Instituto Cervantes. They are specially developed to enable fast and effective learning of Spanish as a foreign language. In order to guarantee you top quality, we use a wide variety of interesting and diverse materials. The educational materials are made available to you free of charge for the duration of your stay with us. All of our students also receive a certificate of successful completion at the end of their course.

All of our instructors are native speakers and have a university degree as well as extensive experience in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Continual training ensures a teaching staff whose lessons satisfy the highest criteria. All our teachers have been teaching Spanish courses in Costa Rica for many years.

Every week, the school offers a comprehensive recreational program. You can learn more about Heredia City, San José and Costa Rica during dance classes, city tours, cooking classes, and fiestas. The school also organizes interesting excursions around Costa Rica, for example visits to Tortugero, the Pacific coast and the countries many volcanoes.

Our Spanish Courses in Santo Domingo, Costa Rica

Our Spanish language courses begin every Monday of the year for all language levels, with all lessons being 60 minutes in length. In addition to small group and private instruction, we also offer combination courses. You are free to choose from the following language courses options:

Standard Mini Group

Our mini group regular course consists of 20 lessons of 60 minutes each per week, with an average number of 3 students per class. There is a maximum number of 5 students on this course, with class times running from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Intensive Mini Group

Our mini group intensive course consists of 30 lessons of 60 minutes each per week, with an average of 3 students per class. There is a maximum number of 5 students on this course, with class times running from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Combined (20+10)

Our combined intensive course consists of 20 lessons of mini group classes per week, plus 10 lessons of individual classes of 60 minutes each per week. Tuition times for this course are from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Individual (20)

Our individual regular course consists of 20 lessons of one to one tuition per week, with classes lasting 60 minutes each. Tuition times for this course are from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Individual (30)

Our individual intensive course consists of 30 lessons of one to one tuition per week, with classes lasting 60 minutes each. Tuition times for this course are from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

All course prices include the following:

Learn Spanish in Costa Rica - Accommodation

Our students have the opportunity of living with selected host families who live near the school (no more than a 10 to 15 minutes walk). Our host families provide furnished single rooms with 2 or 3 meals per day (students can choose) as well as a laundry service. Moreover, living with a host family accords you an excellent opportunity to utilize and improve your acquired Spanish skills and learn more about the local culture. At our school we find that students often form close friendships with their host families that endure long after the student's stay has come to an end.

On arrival in Costa Rica you will be picked up from the airport in San José and brought to your selected accommodation. Students are free to bring along their boyfriend or girlfriend to live with the host family even if they are not participating in a language course. Please note any special dietary needs (if you are a vegetarian, for example) and allergies when you register, so that your host family can accommodate these.

Accommodation prices always include nights from Sunday until Saturday. You are welcome to stay more nights before and after your course. Extra nights will be charged as listed below.

Host family with half board per day: 15 €

Host family with full board per day: 18 €
