Learn Spanish in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Cochabamba is located in the heart of Bolivia where it allows easy access to all regions of the country, from the tropical lowlands to the arid high planes, as well as La Paz, the world's highest capital city. Cochabamba lies in a fertile valley at 2,558 meters above sea level, surrounded by the Tunari hill, the Alalay lagoon and the San Sebastian hill. The weather in the city is generally mild and pleasant and is considered to be the best in the whole country, with warm sunny days and cool nights. The average temperature in winter is around 17° C (61° Fahrenheit), while in the summer the average temperature rises to around 26° C (78° Fahrenheit).

The city's most famous attraction is the statue of the Cristo de la Concordia which is perched atop the San Pedro hill. The statue is 33m (109ft) tall making it the tallest of its kind in the world. Visitors can climb inside the statue for a unique view of Cochabamba, with cable car rides available from the city to the mountain top also providing a spectacular panorama of the area.

Our Spanish School in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Our Spanish School is located in the Juan XXIII neighborhood of Cochabamba, just ten to fifteen minutes by bus from the center of the city. The Spanish language school is a one story building built around a small inner patio, with nine classrooms which are used for groups of up to three students or individual classes. Situated in front of the building is another small patio where our students gather during lesson breaks to chat, plan afternoon and night activities or excursions. The outer patio is also where you can get delicious fruit juices, milkshakes, tea, coffee and sandwiches.

Students who would prefer to take their lessons outdoors can either be accommodated under a parasol in the grounds or on one of our patios. Two of our classrooms at the bottom of the inner patio can also be transformed into a large space for parties in the evenings or at weekends, while our directors and their staff regularly organize fiestas for the students, teachers and families. This space also serves for group discussions and video projections, while occasionally we also host art exhibitions in the classrooms and halls.

Our Spanish language school is well used to providing lessons for students from all corners of the globe, with roughly fifty percent of our students coming from Europe, twenty five percent from North America and twenty five percent from other parts of the world. Equally we are quite comfortable accepting students of all ages, with our youngest student to date being only four years old and the oldest seventy six. However, the average age of our students is roughly between twenty and forty years old. Our Spanish school in Cochabamba, Bolivia is happy to adapt our programs to suit every individual requirement. For younger learners we can provide games and special didactic material for their lessons, while for adults, we can offer material related to any subject of their choice.

In Cochabamba our students and teachers frequently socialize outside of class in traditional and cultural events, as well as excursions. Our teachers are also happy join their students for a night out at bars or clubs if the students would like. As well as our Spanish language programs, our school also operates a program of optional excursions to areas throughout Bolivia. These excursions provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more about the culture and environment of the country, as well as providing countless opportunities for practicing the Spanish they have learnt in the classroom.

Our Spanish school organizes its Spanish courses so students are generally taught in small groups of no more than three people, with consideration given according to the level of the participants and the needs of the school. Most of our classes are on a one to one basis, with group classes usually reserved for beginners with very little or no knowledge of the Spanish language.

Our teachers plan their lessons around the progress of each individual student so no one is allowed to fall behind. After an initial few lessons, students are assessed for their initial progress and moved into separate groups depending on the progress made, as well as the student's personal preferences. Over the years we have developed this system in recognition of the way different people learn, with some only interested in conversation, while others may prefer more technical grammar. From this stage onwards all students will attend personalized classes that respond more specifically to the needs and interests of each individual. Sometimes, after many sessions of personalized classes, and when the student has reached an advanced level, small groups can be formed with topics of common interest, such as grammar, literature or history. These lessons can be in the form of discussions or intensive practice of the language.

At our Spanish courses can be started any day of the week, with most students starting with individual classes of one teacher to one student. Students with little or no knowledge of the Spanish language are placed with teachers who speak their language or a language that is common to both. After reaching a basic knowledge of the Spanish language, we are happy to include subjects of special interest to the student that can run alongside the basic material of the school.

Our Spanish School is dedicated to offering a quality service, with a method which adapts to the interests, needs and expectations of each student, and with material which is revised and updated frequently. One of the most important parts of our Spanish school's cultural and learning experience is our home stay with a local family option. In the Juan XXIII neighborhood of Cochabamba there are many families that host students, with participants able to choose among families of various generations, families with many children, or with only one or two members. You can also request a single room, a double room, or you and a companion can stay in separate rooms with the same family. Our home stay accommodation can also be provided for whole families.

Students participating in our home stay option will be the only guest at their chosen home. While you are with your family you will get to know the joys, pains, fiestas, customs and traditions of a normal middle class Bolivian family living on the outskirts of the city. Although this option will offer you the chance to be immersed in the culture and traditions of the country, it is the opportunities for practicing what you have learnt in the classroom which makes our home stay option so popular and rewarding.

Students taking part in our home stay program will share three meals a day with their chosen family, with breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as fruits and drinks provided every day of the week. For students who would prefer not to take part in our home stay program, we can offer a wide range of hotel accommodation in the city.
