The nightlife in Montañita heads well into the day. Outdoor cafes prefer the grooves of reggae, funk and rock while the relaxed salsatecas and clubs beat to reggaeton, rap and electronic music.

Outside of town, there are tons of trails for hiking, horseback riding and biking. The seashore seems to stretch endlessly, but after just a few minutes hikers find themselves in a tropical jungle with plenty of diversity, including anything from tigrillos to howler monkeys.

Spanish School in Montañita

School Location: The Spanish school in Montañita is located on a quiet edge of the town just 15 seconds from Montanita’s famous beach. Restaurants, buses, banks, internet access, clubs and markets are all less than 2 minutes away by foot.

School Facilities: The school is a two-story building with a wonderful view of the beach. It contains 10 classrooms and a living room with a hammock for students to relax. Free coffee, tea and water are available throughout the day, and surfboard rentals and classes are also available at the school.

Teachers: All Spanish language teachers have university education. Most have linguistics degrees and teaching certifications.

Materials: There is a 28 USD deposit for books, but this is refunded once the books are returned to the school.

Spanish Learning + Cultural Activities

The Montañita Spanish school offers classes for salsa dancing, yoga, surfing and diving. Students regularly enjoy cooking classes, movie nights, barbeques and weekend retreats to other hot surfing spots or the diverse national park of Isla de La Plata, nicknamed the “Poor Man’s Galapagos” to see whales, dolphins, blue-footed boobies and other rare wildlife. All these activities are available for a reasonable, additional fee.
