Learn German in Freiburg, Germany
Freiburg is known as one of the most attractive towns in Germany. Situated in the sunniest part of the country, in the South-West between the Black Forest and the Kaiserstuhl, Freiburg's scenic attractions include mountains and lakes, vineyards and orchards. This position within the triangle of nations, France to the West and Switzerland in the South contributes much to Freiburg's particular charm. As Freiburg has a university there is a wide variety of cultural events on offer. In addition to the well-established municipal theatre, numerous fringe theatre troupes perform classical and modern works.
The picturesque streets of Freiburg's medieval town centre are inviting to stroll through, while the market on the Münsterplatz is a daily meeting point. Freiburg provides a rich environment within which the German language and culture can be explored.
Freiburg is situated in the center of the "Breisgauer Bucht" (" Breisgau Bay "). This is an area between the Kaiserstuhl (seat of the kaiser) - an extinct volcano directly on the eastern shore of the Rhine- and the mountain range of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), which recedes here somewhat to the east. The city of Breisach lies directly on the Rhine and at the foot of the Kaiserstuhls southern slopes.
Freiburg's old city is bordered by the Schloßberg. A cable car goes from the Stadtgarten (city garden) to the top of the hill. The Lorettoberg is part of the Schauinslandmassiv. It is the site of many expensive villas and crowns the southern section of Freiburg. The greater Freiburg area also includes the southern section of the Schönberg and the western part of the vineyard-covered Tuniberg. In the south, the vineyards are a part of the Markgräflerland (margrave land). The city section of Zähringen lies to the north beneath the ruins of the old "Zähringer Burg" (castle fortress). The Seepark (former home of the land's garden show) and the satellite towns of Landwasser and Weingarten-Binzengrün are situated between the city center and its so called "green lungs" Mooswald to the east. A new city subdivision is under construction in Rieselfeld.
Freiburg is famous for its many efforts to protect and preserve natural resources and the environment. In 1992, the city was awarded the title "Umwelthauptstadt Deutschlands" (The German Capital for Environmental Protection).

All German courses are taught in the "communicative method". The purpose of this is to enable the students to become fluent in oral and written communication and understanding. We work with the principle of "one language", which means that during classes German is the only language spoken.
The classes consist of a balanced mixture of communication exercises, vocabulary and the application of idiomatic language use as well as grammar. We consider grammar only as a means to an end, not as the essence of learning a language. Besides the proved textbooks we also use authentic texts from literature and the media which have relevance to daily life (culture, politics, land, people etc)
Our German school in Freiburg, Germany is equipped with overhead projectors, TV, Video, DVD, Casette players and computers with internet access in order to support learning.
Part of any language-training holiday is always the desire to get to know and to experience the culture of the region one has chosen. We have developed a leisure-time-program which will suit culture- and art enthusiasts alike and which can be adapted to your individual interests.
We offer a historical sight-seeing-tour including a guided tour of the Münster, as well as many excursions to the surrounding areas, or even to the neighboring Alsace, ( France ) or to Switzerland. We have a video night once a week, showing current or nationally relevant movies, and, weather permitting, we even have grill parties.
You can reach all the important sights of the town on foot. For an economical way to get to those destinations that are further away, it is possible to obtain a discounted monthly ticket, the Regiokarte for students, which is valid for all public transport ranging from Freiburg city to the outer regions of the Black Forest. Seeing that Freiburg's inner region has few hills, it is ideal for biking. We therefore suggest renting a bike on a daily or even weekly basis. For mountain bike enthusiasts the mountainous areas nearby are preferable.
Hiking is possible at all times of the year; during the summer period you can go for a swim in one of the many lakes in the area, and in winter there are many opportunities to go skiing or snow boarding-sports lovers of all kinds have many adventures to look forward to, and can combine their sporting-holiday with a language stay in the most comfortable way.
