Both English and French studies are offered at our school in Montreal. Our French school in Montreal is centrally located, close to public transit and close to a wide variety of shops and restaurants.

Our classrooms are light and bright with ample space for each student. The extensive Student Resource Centre is a multi-media facility. It contains computers, CD-ROM, audio and reading materials. You can take advantage of the Student Resource Centre for independent or guided study. Internet and email are free.

Learn French in MontrealAt our French school in Montreal, we offer a full range of programs in English and French. Our programs are practical, informative and enjoyable. Here you learn to communicate effectively by focusing on the four basic language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Beginners must start on one of the session start dates listed.

We encourage all students to arrive for a session start date; however, non-Beginner students may start any Monday.

Our French school in Montreal is closed on official holidays (see listing). When holidays occur on Monday, courses start on Tuesday. When holidays occur on Friday, courses end on Thursday.

Course hours are not replaced.

General French Courses

Course Length: 13 sessions of 4 weeks; minimum 2 weeks (non-beginners may start any Monday) Levels: 7 levels in French

  • Lessons: 20 Lessons

  • Periods A + B + C
  • 30 Lessons
  • Periods A + B + C + D

Plus: one-to-one lessons can be taken in addition to 20, 25 or 30 Lessons.

Instruction Hour: 55 minutes, breaks are scheduled outside of instruction hours.

Evaluation: 80% participation and improvement in class 20% weekly quiz

Upon completion of studies, a certificate is awarded according to the program of study

Timetable of Class Periods:

  • Monday to Friday Period A 09:00 - 10:50
  • Period B 11:20 - 13:10
  • Monday to Thursday Period C 14:10 - 15:20
  • Period D 15:35 - 16:45
  • Period E 17:00 - 17:55

There is no class Friday afternoon.

All students in 20, 25 or 30 Lessons programs take Integrated Studies during Periods A and B. In these periods, we use an integrated approach to the improvement of your general ability to communicate. The emphasis is on oral fluency.

Period A deals with language elements and their practice.

Period B targets language usage through discussion of video, audio and written materials.

Skills Studies

Students build their Integrated Studies with 1 or 2 French courses in Periods C and D. Each course has a specialized language goal. Subjects have been carefully chosen to provide you with a range of topics suitable to your ability and interests. Topics are offered at four levels on a rotational basis. As a Skills Studies option, students may choose computer-assisted language study in the Student Resource Centre during Period C/D.

20 Lessons Per Week

For this course, we use an integrated approach to language learning, with speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. This course is normally be taught by one teacher to allow students to progress at a more rapid pace.

25 lessons Per Week

This program adds skill development courses to Integrated Studies, which give students more opportunity to develop and practice their skills. These additional courses have clear objectives that cater to students' needs at different stages of their development.

Each course concentrates on introducing, developing and polishing specific skills through the use of interesting topics and activities.

Courses are offered on a rotational basis at 4 different levels of ability.

Students in the 25 Lessons program benefit from instruction by a team of teachers.

30 Lessons Per Week

For students wanting a more intensive study program, the 30 Lessons program adds even more skill development courses

The courses additional classes give students more opportunity to develop and practice their skills.

Courses are offered on a rotational basis at 4 different levels of ability. There is the chance to prepare for DELF examinations.

Students in the 30 Lessons program benefit from instruction by a team of teachers.

First Day of School

It is easy to travel to our French school in Montreal by public transit. You should allow yourself plenty of time on your first day to arrive at school. We ask you to bring along your passport, letter of acceptance, student authorization (visa) and funds for payment of any outstanding fees.

The first day begins at 08:30. You will have an evaluation, registration, information session about school services and a guided walking tour of the school surroundings. The evaluation is comprised of a written and an oral test.

French Courses in MontrealIt takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete all the steps of registration on the first day. In the months of July through September, it may take longer.

25 Lessons and 30 Lessons students begin class at 14:10 on first day.

20 Lessons students begin class at 09:00 on the next day.

Students must be 18 years of age or older and must be familiar with the Latin alphabet.

Individual French courses are available at all levels of ability. Your French course is customized in approach, content and duration to suit your needs and wishes.

To assist us in creating an individualized program, you are asked to complete our self-assessment form prior to enrolling. This helps to define your specific needs and interests and enables the instructor to guide you toward meeting your objectives.

You can request a special emphasis on a particular language skill. If you have special learning requirements, you should advise us in advance. You should feel free to bring with your materials in your language of study which pertain to your special needs.


Accommodation Requirements

Accommodation is available from the Saturday immediately preceding a course start date unless noted otherwise. Students must leave their accommodation by 11:00 a.m. on the Saturday immediately following their course end date. Students who arrive earlier or depart later must contact the school to make special arrangements.

Note that due to national holidays there are no classes on the following dates: April 6, May 21, June 25, July 2, September 3, October 8, December 25 + 26, January 1.

If there are two or more days off in one week, the school will only be closed on one of them.

Textbook charge of 25$ per 4 weeks or portion thereof.

Fees are payable in Canadian Dollars.

A U.S. Dollar Fee Schedule is available upon request.
