The Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand is blessed with a sunny climate, fabulous beaches, sheltered coastal plains and long established vineyards. It is also one of the country's largest pip fruit growing areas and a major year round tourist destination. Napier, the main city of the region, is famous the world over for having one of the largest concentrations of art deco buildings on the planet. The city of Napier was badly destroyed by a massive earthquake and fire in 1931, and was subsequently rebuilt in the art deco style that was fashionable at the time. The city's Art Deco Walk is a popular permanent attraction, while every February enthusiasts from across the world flock to Napier to join in the celebrations at the Brebner Print Art Deco Weekend, which involves hundreds of people dressing in the style of the 1930's and driving around the city in vintage cars.

The Hawke's Bay vineyards are all within a short distance of Napier and Hastings, the other important city in the region. The area has more than 30 vineyards that are open to the public for wine tasting, vineyard tours and wine sales, with many also operating cafes and restaurants in both indoor and beautiful outdoor settings. The Hawks Bay region is especially known for its fine chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon varieties.

English Schools in NapierAt our English school in Napier, New Zealand students will find the perfect environment for learning a new language, with our modern school facilities and our fantastic location in a small friendly seaside city, which is famous for Art Deco architecture, beautiful nature and award winning wine. As New Zealand has long been famous for the friendliness of its people, every student is guaranteed to receive a warm welcome and leave with memories and friendships which will last a lifetime.

At our Napier English School we want you to make friends with other students from around the world, so to encourage this we limit the percentage of students from each country. At busy times of the year this may mean waiting for a place to become available, but we believe this is a small disadvantage compared to the quality of the learning experience you will receive in a truly international learning environment.

Our English schools teaching methods are based on modern communicative methods of teaching English, as well as helping and encouraging students to be actively involved in the class activities. Our students are not only encouraged to interact with their teacher but they are also expected to practice speaking English with their classmates as often as possible. In Napier we have learnt the importance of student to student help, with this in mind we encourage classroom activities to be done in pairs, threes or small groups, while maximum student participation is always strongly encouraged.

Unlike many English schools in New Zealand we recognize the importance of regular interaction between teachers and their students; with this in mind we limit our class sizes to an absolute maximum of twelve students, while our average class size is around eight students per lesson. We are also happy to accommodate students of all ages, with our previous students ranging in age from seventeen to sixty five years old, while the average age of our students is around twenty three.

Our English school also operates an extensive activities programme that runs along side our language courses, with regular activities and excursions organized for after class and at weekends. Activities on offer include sports events, wine tasting tours and nights on the town, as well as excursions to the beach, the hot springs and various other local attractions.
