Our English Courses in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand
On the first morning of their English course, students are interviewed briefly then given a short written test. Depending on the results they are then placed in an appropriate class for their particular level of English ability. During the morning class teachers will then assess each student's progress and recommend any changes in course level if required. Students may also request a change in course level at anytime if they feel they are not progressing as they would like. Students are then assessed each week on the basis of their speaking, writing, reading and listening ability and grammar.
Our teachers work hard to create an environment where students will have the confidence to use their English in realistic situations. Our lessons are always designed to be lively and practical, with an emphasis on students communicating in English as much as possible. The usual skills of speaking, reading, listening, grammar and pronunciation are taught in an integrated form, meaning they are practiced together, as is the case in normal everyday communication.
At our Mount Maunganui English School we offer two English Courses of varying intensity (full time and part time), with both course separated into ability levels of beginner, intermediate and advanced students. All our English courses start on any Monday and are available for any length, from two weeks up to one year.
University and School Preparation Course
We work closely with local schools to prepare students to settle easily into the New Zealand classroom situation and adapt to a method of study that may be new to them. We have found that our students achieve good results because they have gained confidence in a more sheltered environment.
We aim to fully prepare students for study at tertiary level in New Zealand, with a score of Band 6 in the IELTS Test. We recommend a minimum of 12 weeks study. However, the length of study depends on students' entry level and we have found that most students need at least 24 weeks to prepare themselves adequately.
Students will study the structure and functions of English language, in preparation for the Listening, Reading, Academic Writing and Speaking tests. Tests will be given at regular intervals so that students can measure their progress on the IELTS scale. New Zealand orientation will also be included in the course.
Tertiary Placements have been made at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Waikato University, Otago University, Crown Institute of Studies, Servilles Hairdressing Academy, Whitecliffe College of Art and Design.
We work closely with students, agents, parents and the high school to ensure that the best study options are chosen for the student. Our preferred partner school is Mount Maunganui College, an excellent local high school.
Our school in Mount Maunganui also offers English + Surfing courses, English + Diving courses, English + Work Experience, English + Cooking, English + Golf, English + Horse Riding, English + Snowboarding/Skiing. Please contact us for further details.
