English Courses in Ennis, Ireland
Situated on the River Fergus, Ennis, with a population of 34,204, is the county town of Clare in Ireland. The town is located north of Limerick and south of Galway. The name Ennis is a shortening of the original Inis Cluain Ramh Fhada (" Long Rowing Meadow Island ").
Ennis town centre consists of narrow streets and many old buildings. One of these, Parnell Street, has now been pedestrianised, while many of the other main streets have been made one way to help alleviate the jostling for space between car and pedestrian. The town also has a traditional market and many small shops, both old and new, which make Ennis an interesting place to hunt for gifts and souvenirs. The Pro-Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul can also be found in the town.
Ennis has become an important centre of Irish traditional music over the last fifteen years, and, late in May each year, hosts the Fleadh Nua, the second largest traditional music festival in Ireland. Entertainment and being entertained is part of the culture of Ennis, with the town offering an endless array of lively activities for people of all ages. Irish traditional music can be heard flowing out of nearly every pub and hotel, while throughout the year local and visiting theatre groups and live music acts can be enjoyed at various venues including the new Glor concert venue and cultural centre. For the night owl, Ennis also has several good nightclubs. Whether you're coming to Ennis from the UK, continental Europe, the US or from other parts of Ireland, it is an easy town to reach yet a difficult one to leave.
County Clare is a place where seascapes, landscapes and lakescapes all combine to set the background for a memorable time at our English school in Ireland.
