Home > Course OptionsLanguages in Action Language CoursesOur language courses focus on building communication skills, with comprehension skills playing a large part of the communication process. At the beginning of your course, your language level will be assessed and you will be placed in an appropriate group. Courses usually begin the first Monday of every week for students with some foreign language knowledge, while beginner courses usually start the first Monday of every month. Please see each location page for specific details. Group 25, 30, 35 hours per week Language CoursesThese courses are similar in content and style of the group 15+ courses, but are more popular with students who have a limited amount of time or would like more intensive language study. Levels are beginner to advanced with courses taking place Monday to Friday. Courses usually run in the morning until early afternoon, with a break for lunch. You will usually study your chosen language for a minimum of five hours each day focusing on the four main language areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Individual Language CoursesThese tailor made courses can be designed around your own requests or can be combined with language needs identified during a diagnostic interview and assessment. These courses run Monday to Friday and the content will vary according to your wishes or needs. These courses can also follow a course book or set curriculum. The pace of the lessons will be adapted around you and you may have different teachers depending on your needs or requests. Individual courses can begin any day of the week, so are also useful for those on a tight schedule. Combined Language CoursesThese courses combine the benefits of group learning with the benefit of focusing individually on your own learning wishes or needs. You may like to focus on particular areas or grammar or learn specific vocabulary during the individual lessons; you may also like these lessons to revise previous studies. Group lessons offer more communication with language students of similar ability; individual lessons may also follow this pattern, but you may wish to build skills in other areas. The focus of the individual lessons can be your choice, or you can allow the teachers to assess your needs. These courses are popular with students who have a limited amount of available time, and for students who would like to advance their language skills more rapidly. Courses are offered for all levels and usually take place Monday to Friday. Examination Language CoursesExamination language courses are attended by students with at least an intermediate language level ability. These courses follow and pre set curriculum designed around the corresponding examination and take place in the morning from Monday to Friday. The number of hours in class varies from course to course, but is often twenty hours per week. Students who take these courses do so for academic or professional purposes. At the end of each course, students can take their chosen examination at an examination center nearest to their chosen place of study. Activity Language CoursesActivity language courses are a fun way to develop your language skills while engaging in an activity of your choice. Those who would like to combine their language learning experience with one of their favorite pastimes often take these courses. The pace of these language courses is generally more relaxed than traditional courses and is a fun way to learn and practice a language while pursuing an activity. The times of class and activity vary depending on the type of activity chosen and course location. Specialized Language CoursesThese courses offer language study with a professional focus. They are mainly attended by people in employment, who would like to build their foreign language skills within their profession, or by students, who need to build language skills for their studies. Language classes usually take place in the morning from Monday to Friday. These courses are similar in style to traditional language courses, but focus more on building vocabulary skills while using common phrases and situations within a particular profession. Many of these courses follow language course books written for such specific purposes. |
